Kitchenaid Microwave oven KHMS2056SSS2 issue
« on: February 27, 2014, 07:08:59 PM »
Hi everybody

I was searching around the web looking for some help on an issue I am having with my Kitchenaid Microwave/vent hood combo  KHMS2056SSS2 - and oddly enough I found parts, but not any information about it (well, nothing relevant at least! :) ).

This morning, my wife was heating something up and then the entire system died - like a fuse blew.  I checked all my incoming power, and found no issues.  I am wondering if there is an internal fuse that may be blown.  I cant find anything that would direct me to where this fuse may be (if it even exists) and I just don't want to tear into it blindly..... Though, it may be fun! (my wife would not be happy with me).

So I was wondering if anyone has had similar issues, and how did you solve them?  Did you happen to find a service manual or some other guidance on which screws to pull first?

Thanks in advance

Jonathan

Hi,

Yes there is a internal fuse. It's on the same side at the control panel. You can try to remove the control panel to access the fuse. You may have to remove the microwave from the wall and then remove the cabinet in order to access the fuse. Not sure on this exact model.

Hi AJ

You were right, there was a fuse on the right hand side of the unit.  I was very fortunate that the model I have is a 36" model - so it had a huge empty space to the right where I had room to work.  I did need to drop the unit a little to access a screw on the top, but I did not need to fully take it down.  I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the schematics and troubleshooting chart were taped inside the right hand trim piece.

The fuse was a 20 amp, 250 VAC variety - a few bucks at Lowes.  The whole job took about 15 minutes.
