Thought it would be fun to do a little poll to see about what the average age is that a appliance gets replaced.

So how old was the last appliance you replaced?

Please tell us some more about it.
What appliance was it?
Did you want to replace it or did you have no choice?

Mine was a refrigerator at 8 years. Nothing wrong with it other than the little lady just had to have a newer looking one

Mine was a WP DD washer but got a Free WP Duet washer so why not...lol...did I mention it was free???

Also a Bosch DW that Randy tried to fix himself and since parts of the console got "lost" well, so installed a new WP tall tub about 3 years ago....nice...

Hi

I just had to replace my 6 year old Frig.

I was not pleased. My last frig lasted 18yrs. What's up with this?

I was so happy to find sites like this to help me with troubleshooting.

Wow! This is another fantastic appliance repair web site. I noticed Pegi moderates here and I now see where all these appliance repair manuals reside. Lest I forget, my old washer which I just replaced a few months ago "was" a reliable 28 year old Maytag GA408. A real joy to use and repair simply because it was well designed, majority of parts were easily accessible and ebay along with other web based retailers had a plentiful supply of repair parts. Had to toss the washer after not being able to source a replacement mechanical timer. I presently have a General Electric WPRE6100 which I "thought" was a good washer until I read all the negative writeups/reviews in all the appliance repair forums. Consumer Reports spoke glowingly of GE having one of the best top loaders....Anyway, I'll be lurking here quite often as you can never be too old to be taught new skills repairing versus tossing repairable appliances.

The poll is getting interesting. So many under 10 years old getting replaced.
Will be interesting to see if it stays that way after 100 votes, 1000 votes, etc...

I would like to make it perfectly clear that I have not ever downloaded any manuals into this forum, I do not not want any mis-understanding about the source of the manuals available in this site..there will be members that know me from several different forums but make no mistake, I only help here with answering questions, I do not contribute any tech data or manuals....Pegi

Yep, that is correct and I would like to thank Pegi for helping answer questions on our forums.

Also if the members take a look at the file they are about to download it will say what member uploaded the file. This way there is no mis-understanding as to who is uploading the manuals.

6 year old bottom mount Amana refrigerator!
Had a bad compressor and not long before the compressor went out we had to replace the control board and the start relay.

After the compressor went out we decided to junk it out.

Mine was a 30+ yr old White Westinghouse laundry center. Just upgraded to the new Frigidaire set. Gave my old set to my brother-in-law. He still uses it.

Would love to see some photos of that 30+ year old Westinghouse. Can't say I have ever seen one that old.

How's that new Frigidaire set working out for you?

Right after Katrina hit I lost my GE upright freezer. I originally paid nothing for. In 1989 I was sent by my boss to his mothers home. I was instructed to go by the wholesalers warehouse and pick her up a brand new upright freezer. She lived in a swanky house in springhill. I carefully
set up her new freezer and loaded the old one on the truck. I checked in with the boss. Mission accomplished what do you want done with the old freezer? He said chunk it! I took it to my house and on my next day off I checked it out. The timer was stuck in defrost. It was a very nice frostfree upright and her maid had throughly cleaned it out also. It was imaculate. It lasted till Hurricane Katrina hit and the compressor died. I finally cchunked it to the curb. I went down to the river and their was an upright freezer also tossed on the trash it was in the flood from the hurricane. not a frost free model just a plain upright model with no fans nothing. I was liking what I was looking at so i took it home and hosed it down. I let it sit a day or two in the sun to let it dryout.sure enough it did not stink. so I put a new hard start on it and gave it a try. It works beautiful. 2nd freezer in a row I ain't paid anything for. and this one I really like it because even though it ain't a defrost model,you can never hear it running.It is awesome.

I often thought about saving some of the old ones, but my wife would kill me if I started a "Collection" of appliances.

@ JWWebster,
I like free stuff. There are so many things that get junked out and no one takes the time to check them out.
Seems like everyone wants the latest and greatest new appliances now day's.
I hope all you lost in Katrina was your freezer...
