Crosley by: Whirlpool washer with fill water hammering
« on: February 08, 2014, 09:01:26 PM »
Hello everyone, I have a Crosley washer made by Whirlpool model no. CAWS16445WQ0 that is making a machine gun hammering noisy while filling.  The washer will start off OK then one of the water valves will start to rapidly turn on & off as I can see the fill hoses jumping around.  The washer has Automatic Temperature Control.  The two parts I am thinking that could be wrong would be the water temperature switch part no. W10184148 or the water inlet valve w/thermistor and vacuum break part no. W01044820.  Has anyone run into this before and if so what part do I need to replace?  Thanks for any help you can give! Tom

Check to make sure your shutoff valves on the wall are open all the way. If they are, check your water pressure. If pressure is too low or too high. I believe the pressure needs to be between 50 and 120 psi. If that checks OK, you may have a bad fill valve.

Also check for any flood safe hoses or valves which can cause this problem.

I replaced the fill valve because it includes the thermistor and adjusted the fill hoses so they are not all twisted and up against the wall.  the cycling of the hot & cold water still seems to be too frequent compared to other washers but the customer has not complained since then.  If she does I will most likely have to replace the auto temp control switch.  We'll see what happens.  Thanks for all your help, tom

Usually not a machine issue? Usually a home plumbing issue whether it's loose pipes, pressure issues, or both!

After replacing the water valve it turned out to be the water temp switch.  Everything is good now, thanks for all your help.  Tom
