Maytag PYG2300AWW slow start
« on: January 28, 2014, 05:55:43 PM »
Hi, The dryer starts moving slowly and the start button must be held until the drum gets speed. Rotating the dryer, when empty, by hand shows lots of friction. JWWebster (6-13-2008) suggested gliders in the front. I am going too order the front glider replacement kit and the belt also because it must wearing. Are there any additional ideas about? The rear rollers are not noisy and noise seems too be the only reason for their replacement. Thanks in advance for ideas.

Sorry, but meant there were no unusual noises. Ignored the motor because off & empty the friction was instant. Hope its not the motor because this is a long drive for a family freeby. Let you know

Pop the belt off and see if there is any hesitation of the motor starting.

FYI on this dryer rear rollers were a common problem on this dryer and was always a good idea to replace belt ,guides and rollers with this dryer. But you may have a motor that is going bad.Just wanted to let you know.

I would check the belt idler pulley. It can seize on the shaft.

Thanks dab & bailey. For the rear rollers (LA1008), I was going too order them also until the how to video reported that their problem was usually noise, which is not happening. The idler pulley shall be inspected

FIXED, I hope.  Thanks for all the education & direction from you guys. During disassembly, much lint was vacuumed all over the lower workings. You guys were right about the motor area. The motor was so tight that with the drum out, I could not rotate the motor by hand. The lint by the motor appeared too be a fire waiting too happen. 7/8 socket on the pulley & WD40 loosened the motor. Turning the motor power  on & WD40 worked. BTW 2 pieces of plastic tubing had fallen under the lint filter, reducing air flow, which was not noticeable outside the home at the vent. That was the creator of all of the excess lint everywhere. I did replace the belt, but not the gliders, which were fine.
