Maytag Se1000 washer dryer combo water level problem.
« on: January 21, 2014, 03:48:14 PM »
Water level switch has been replaced and air tube was cleaned and 1/2" cut off small hose end. The small load fills the tub up about 2/3 and medium fills all but to the top. Large load overfills tub. Have not yet replaced the air tube wanted to see if anyone had a better idea before I ordered part.

Right where the tube from the pressure switch meets the (air dome or larger hose) put some bubble leak or dish soap on it and fill it. Watch for bubbles, that's where I use to find a small hole in the hose. Also did you make sure when you changed the switch that the hose was clear ( no water in dome)?

Thanks for the reply. This is the original air line with standard wire clamp. The unit is about 20 years old I thought about putting a better clamp on but at the age maybe I should order a new one. The only other thing I thought it could possibly be is the touch panel control. Thought I would try the cheapest one first.

Touch panel wouldn't have anything to do with the water level. You see the small hose connected to the pressure switch? At the other end it is larger at the tub. Right where it goes smaller is where I find "cracks in the hose" that"s why you put soap on it while it fills . Bubbles at that point mean bad hose. Double check the area where the hose mounts to the tub as well as I have seen soap and such partially block the area.

Maytag SE1000 overflowed on the large load setting, worked on the medium and small although I suspect the water level was too high for those levels. After reading the comments here, thank you by the way, and some videos on youtube regarding other machines, pointing to the problem with a disconnected, clogged, or leaking air tube to the water level valve, I decided to remove the Air tube that connects the tub to the water level switch. Examining the inside of the tube, the sides were covered in slime and debris. I clean out the tube with a small tube brush and continually alternated between tapping the tube to dislodge the debris, brushing and rinsing the tube until it ran clear. Then I tested the tube for air leaks by plugging the large end with the palm of my hand and then blowing on the other end while the tube was submerged in water. No bubbles appeared. I put the clean tube back on the washer and tested the machine. That seem to do the trick. The large load water level stopped filling at the appropriate place in the tub.

Should I replace the air tube anyway (#22 in the attached) just to be safe?
