Frigidair FPHB2899LF
« on: January 18, 2014, 11:13:02 PM »
Hi,

The water dispenser and ice maker are both not working. It seems water is not reaching them. I checked water pressure and its fine. I replaced the filter and it's now brand-new. Whenever I remove and replace the water filter, water squirts out just before I am able to push the filter all the way. When I remove the filter, it is filled with water. So it's looks like water goes up to the filter and that the problem is AFTER the filter. By the way, when I press on the water dispenser, I can hear soft humming sound somewhere.

Thanks for any help.

All the water lines may be frozen in the freezer. May be from freezer temperature too low. To confirm, I jam a thin wire down the dispenser water line, if you hit a blockage, it's frozen.

The only way to fix this is to thaw the freezer for a few days!

PROBLEM FIXED:
Found a coiled hose inside the fridge which carries water to both the dispenser and ice maker. Water inside the hose seems frozen. Used kitchen towel soaked in hot water to thaw the water in the coiled hose. After a few minutes, water came out of the dispenser. After a few hours, ice cubes started coming out of the ice maker.

Thanks for the info.

Why did it freeze to start with?
Will it happen again?

I can only guess that the fridge temp is too low. And I also noticed that the foam surrounding the housing for the coiled hose has some openings in some areas which probably allows too much cold air to enter the housing of that coiled hose. So I removed that foam and installed a thicker insulation tape around the housing. I also increased the temperature of the fridge from 38degF to 40degF. I am still checking the water dispenser every few hours to see if water is still going thru.

Hi AJ,

Any suggestions or insights on why and how this happens? I am still taking a close look at my fridge if the problem is still there or is just in suspense.

Thanks.
