Whirlpool dryer GGW9200LW1 keeps shutting off
« on: March 11, 2014, 03:21:30 PM »
Whirlpool duet dryer mod# GGW9200LW1: Dryer starts and runs any where from 1 minute to 5 minutes and everything completly stops just shuts right off only thing on then is the time left as well as what ever the settings are on and when it is running it heats just fine so can't be thermal fuse and since it starts at all that along w/checking that it makes clicking sound has to cancel out a bad door switch so does anybody have any other ideas? thank you so much for any help. Also thermistor has continuity as well no lint clog, moisture sensor tests okay.

Any help would be great.

Thank you.

I would start by replacing thermistor as they can check out ok with meter but be bad and are cheap to buy.http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-dryer-thermister-8577274-ap3919451.html

But I was told by another tech that it would not cause the whole thing to shut down , could he have been mistaken?
 Thank you dab147315

A lot of things can cause this problem, you will need a meter, while the unit is running check power to the motor at the control board, when it shuts off was the power interrupted, if not and the power stays constant the motor itself may be overheating. Normally when the motor is the cause a louder than normal noise can be heard coming from the motor on initial start up. Thermistors and thermal fuses will not cause it to shut off then allow it to be started again. When the dryer stops can you restart it right away? Or do you have to wait ten minutes, if you have to wait chances are its the motor.

did you clean the lint out of the motor  if mtr gets full of linr ir eill overheat and shut down,  will it run o/k if vent disconnected, other than that monitor voltage to mtr at control if voltage disappears suspect board  if voltage is present suspect motor.  I have seen thermistors cause int problems as well as door switches as well
