frigdaire washer spinning in wash cycle
« on: January 15, 2014, 02:13:24 PM »
I don't work on Frigdaire often and I have never ran across this before.  What holds the transmission in place during the wash cycle? What would have to be replaced to correct this? If I hold the transmission by hand it works fine. Model number flse60rgs1

At the bottom of the transmission is a helical spring. It is hidden under a rubber cover. It grips the trans body when the motor is turning in the agitate direction sand loosens in the spin direction. It is not offered as a replacement part, but comes with the transmission. However these are being obsoleted. First source said available in February last time I looked. Sears said NLA.

You can try spraying the spring with some auto break cleaner, I have found that sometimes a small amount of leaked out
transmission oil will seep down into that area (especially if the cover [boot seal is old]). As long as the spring and mount are not broken, the degreaser will clean up the surface and the friction will be restored.
Good luck and I hope this helps!

It is normal for the tub to index in the counterclockwise direction during agitation. You should be able to rotate the basket by hand in one direction but in the other direction it should lock up.

Its spinning the water over the top of the tub unless I hold the transmission.
