Kenmore 110.73952101 gas dryer will not stay on
« on: May 05, 2015, 09:06:38 PM »
I'm hoping for some expert advice on the following problem.  I've tried to search without finding these exact issues.

We have a Kenmore Elite 110.73952101 gas dryer with the following symptoms:

When the start button is pressed, it will stay on for a variable length of time (usually less than a minute) but eventually shuts off.

It doesn't matter if it is on the timed dry or sensor dry settings, but it shuts off faster on the high heat settings (cotton), slower on the low heat (perm press) and never on the no heat cycle.

The ignitor coil and gas lines are working normally (after starting, the coil glows, the flame ignites, and runs for a few seconds to a minute or so).

If I hold the start button down, it continues to run, but after about a minute an audible click is heard about every five seconds, like it's trying to trip a relay and shut off.

The drum rotates normally, but shuts off when the flame shuts off.

Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a bad motor to me., except that you say it doesn't do it on air fluff.
So it will run for a long time on air fluff?

Thanks for the reply schleven.  On the air fluff setting it will stay on for at least 10 minutes.  I got bored and needed another beer after that.

This is an Even Heat model. Swap the two relays behind the control panel (heat relay and motor relay are the same). If it still does it, check the thermistor. If good, looks like a bad even heat board. Check board for burned components. Common failure item. By holding the start button, you are bypassing the motor relay.
