Last one I had like that I replaced the suspension rods. Fixed the problem.

I've done a few bearing jobs on these.  It's not a bad job and keeps it out of the scrap yard.  http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?topic=9596.msg46613#msg46613

I've fixed quite a few of those. I really think its a good paying job that only takes about an hour.

Do the old Whirlpool bearing pullers/ installers work?

You don't need a puller the new install kit has a chrome steel punch you knock them out with. Just a couple bangs with a short stubbie 3lb. hammer and punch there out. Install with the installation tool is no more than 5 minutes.

If you mean for the old belt drives, no. The depth is different.

I had the same thing happen. Went out first time and there were socks between the basket and tub. Ran a load with customer present. Tested ok. Went back out on same washer 2 months later, same thing. OB error with no load in it. checked between basket and tub, it was clean. Found one of the 4 suspension rods were bent. Found new rods seem to have been improved a bit.
