Brand Quality differences
« on: November 14, 2013, 12:12:58 PM »
I posted in another thread some issues with my 4 year old GE hydrowave washer model WHRE5550K2WW. We paid $425.00 for it four years ago, we bought a matched washer/dryer set. I have received some much appreciated help with diagnosing the problems. I intend on fixing the washer myself now that I have more insight.
My wife and I are wondering about brand quality amongst the different manufacturers. I have been told by different retailers that there are some brands that are related. GE/Hotpoint, Whirlpool/Kenmore... My question would be if we chose to buy another new top load washer what would be a "better" choice? Our range would be between $400.00-$550.00. Also if anything were to happen what brand(s) would be easier for DIY home repair? I do not consider the current GE washer too difficult to work on. I know that this is a general question and sometimes you get better quality with spending more money but I just wanted to hear what different people's opinions were.

Thanks for any input.

Whirlpool/Maytag,Roper,Estate and some Kenmore washer in your price range of $400 to$550 hundred are all made by Whirlpool.G.E/Hotpoint/RCA/ made by G.E.Just because somethings is $900 dollars does not make the quality better. Most of these new washer that are big money are over engineer products that can cost big money to fix.All the Whirpool washer products lock the lid after you start it and some people don't like that. Its like pick your own poison. All you have to use a H.E detergent.
