I have a Thermador PRG364GD with bad POTs )I think)
« on: November 07, 2013, 09:25:09 PM »
Thermador oven XLO burners on the left aren't working, the burners on the right are.

I usually swap the potentiometers to test them, but in this case each is bad.

I followed my diagnostics and it looks like the spark module and simmer control are fine.  Yet the only parts I see with the POTs come with new simmercontrol/ spark modules.

I also wonder if the electric solenoids are at fault.  Very strangely built oven.
I may get just one solenoid to see if install fails.

I hate being unsure on a high end job like this.

honestly, like sub-zero in fridges, they are simple in many aspects compared to say GE or Jen-Aire.  I*t's just some things that make you say "wtf?".  Like the right bank of burners have an extra low simmer control.  So the knobs have a potentiometer instead of the spark switch the other burners have.  This POT switch goes to the simmer control which is tied into the spark controller and also it goes to a secondary solenoid.

Only three parts can cause a no light scenario, the spark module, the pot switch or the solenoid valve.

I'm getting spark, but not power to the solenoids.  So I am going to change the pot switches first ($50 for both) then if that doesn't work I have solenoids in stock (found that the Bosch ones work)  But I am not sure if I want to get the Simmer control first.  It costs around $125.
