LG WM2301HW power problem
« on: November 07, 2013, 05:14:29 PM »
I have a customer with the above model LG washer. the original complaint was that it wouldnt turn on.

I went out and it appeared to be dead. no lights nothing when I pressed the start button.

So I unplugged it to check the connections.  All looks good.

I plugged it back in, and it works fine.

She ran a cycle and said it completed.

She called back later saying it was dead again.

I went back, removed the top and noticed the red light on the board was on.

nothing happens when the power button pressed.  Unplug  it, plug it back in and it works fine. completes another full cycle.  She said she is able to use it as long as she unplugs it and plugs it back in if it doesn't work.

The only thing I can think of is that something on the main board is weak and gets energized when its unplugged and plugged back in.

Any advice is appreciated.

<<<nothing happens when the power button pressed.>>>

**********

When the Power Button is pressed---does it make a "click" sound?

If not...

Remove the Display Board and check for correct alignment of the Power Button and the small switch on the Display Board.

Sometimes it becomes necessary to *not* tighten all of the screws nearest to the Power Button and switch---to prevent a deformity of either the plastic Control Panel or the Display Board from *depressing/pushing* the switch inward---when fully assembled.

When this occurs---the Main Board will detect a "stuck" key/button---and shutdown.

When the washer has been unplugged/plugged-in---it will work/function for one load/cycle before shutting down again.

That's a possibility as well.

Thanks John63. I dont think its the button. It does click just fine.  After unplugging/plugging, you can turn it on and off and on and off. She is even able to start and run more loads after the first one with no problems, as long as she doesnt wait more than 5 or 10 minutes. If it gets to the point of not turning on, the plug trick always works.

I have had the same issue several times.  as long as the led on the main board remains on, I allways change the user interface{the board behind the buttons} not sure about your exact modle but several of the lg I have worked on this has worked. good luck

Most likely a failing *relay* on the Main Board.

There should be two large relays

One of those relays get power supply first (which powers other components on the Main Board and Display Board)

The second relay closes when the Power Button has been pressed---to start the dryer.

Sometimes---tapping on the Main Board will allow operation/use.

The Tech Sheet in the washer (or the Service Manual) shows the circuit---to allow testing for power at both relays.

Correction:

"The second relay closes when the Power Button has been pressed---to start the *washer*.

Replace the main pcb. Probably a model with a led light in the boot, and it is probably staying on? Anyhow  main PCB. O0 O0

Main pcb was my thought as well. Customer called me today and said it was off, she pushed the button. Nothing. Then a minute later it came on.

So i get the board in today and call the customer to set up a return visit. She thanks me for calling and informs me that it has been working great for the last several days and doesn't want to do anything..
I can return the board, so its not a big deal, however, I bet she calls as soon as I return it.
Sheesh.
