Whirlpool washer less than 2 years old model#WTW4850XQ0
« on: November 04, 2013, 12:07:54 PM »
Yes my mother in law has this washer and didn't purchase the extended warranty and is now having problems. It is a whirlpool washer top load less than 2 years old and it recently started doing something weird. In her words it fills, drains, agitates and everything just fine but when it spins, we'll she said it doesn't spin but slowly so I want to try to fix for her if it's not difficult or to expensive. Wasn't sure what it might be accept maybe lid switch. Is there anyway to rule certain things out like clutch or whatever else it may be? Again she said it agitates, fills and drains good but spins slow leaving clothes very wet.  My father in law did find a motor reset online where you unplug the machine or something for a certain amount of time and open and shut lid like 6 times to do a reset and it worked right a few times after then started messing up again, then they did the reset again and it worked 1 time and started messing up again.

Thanks
James

Well, that's interesting because that reset procedure is for GE hydrowave models, not your Whirlpool VMW model. Tilt the washer back and look up inside front cabinet to retrieve the manual. It will tell you how to get into service mode to run various tests and check for error codes. Most likely a failed shift actuator but check for error codes first. Also, while washer is tilted back, remove the belt guard and check for a loose nut on the center pulley.

Ok to be exact all light which are the      Sensing/fill     wash       rinse    spin       done                lid lock<------not on

flash on then off then on the off and then pause then repeat.

in manual it says when the sensing fill light is on that's fault code  and the other 4 are the error code and all blink as I said>  Book is kind of confusing so!!!!!

Your not reading the manual. The flashing status indicators just means you are in service mode. Read on to get to fault code display mode.

ok I accesed service mode again then like the book says turned the selector know to DONE Led on and pushed start button like manual says.  To view last 4 fault codes turn cycle selector knob clockwise to view last 4 fault codes. When I do I only get the sensing light that lights up on then off then pause and repeat! Turned know again and got same thing 3 more times. on the fifth time I got all lights lit up>  I think when they all light up it means I can clear codes by holding start button 3 seconds but im not sure what to do. In manual under fault/error codes I don't see one that just shows the sensing light on?

That's on the top of the fault list. F0E0, means no faults. Try running calibration mode and then go to manual test mode and run the spin tests.
