KitchenAid control board
« on: November 04, 2013, 06:08:08 AM »
My Kitchenaid side by side model #kssc42qts00 was beeping repeatedly and sounded like something was turning on and off.  This continued for a day or two before the fridge died.  The light comes on when I open the door.  If I push the start button on the panel at the top of the fridge, it beeps and sounds like it is starting up, but then immediately turns off.

I called a repairman who said the control board was burned.  I asked how he knew and he said there was a burn mark on the gemini control board (part # W10219463).  Afterwords I opened it up to see for myself, and I don't see any burn mark.  I didn't see him use a meter or any type of equipment to test any circuits, so I am wondering if he is just guessing.

Can I diagnose the board myself?

Thank you,

When I've seen that, it's always been the control board.  The board is no longer available, you will have to get it rebuilt.

Thanks for the responses.

I will send the board out for repair.

I can't figure out how to get the error codes on my model # kssc42qts00.  I just wanted to have some idea of the problem.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Just got my control board back from FixYourBoard.com.  I fedexed it to them on Monday and I got it back on Sat.

They repaired the power regulator circuit and replaced some other components.

I reinstalled the control board.  Turned on the fridge.  The lights come on.  The fan is running, but the compressor is not coming on.

Can somebody give some advice?

Thank you,

Is it running yet?  It seems to take about 20 minutes for the compressor to start after power up.

tgoods,

I turned it back on about 30 minutes ago and the compressor still hasn't come on.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Dab,

Thanks for the manual.

I went back into the kitchen and it was running.  So, it must have taken a really long time to turn on.  It is slowly cooling off.  Hopefully it will be good by morning.

Thanks for the help,

I sure am glad that I found you.  I'm having the very same problem with my Kitchenaid KSSC42qts00.  Everything you described is exactly what I was hearing and exactly what happened to mine.  We called for service, had 2 separate service guys come, neither being able to figured out for sure what was happening.  That alone has already cost me $700.  After he called Kitchenaid, they suggested trying this same Gemini board which they no longer carry.  So it has to be rebuilt.  That's very frustrating.  After all, how does one manage without a fridge for a week or more?  I'm very disappointed in Kitchenaid customer service.

After you did all of that and installed it, is everything working well now?  How much did it cost to have it rebuilt?  I would really appreciate your help and advice on this matter.  Also, did you remove and replace the board yourself or did you call in a service guy again.  It's so expensive to get them here especially when they leave and you still don't have a working fridge.   :-\

Thank you for your quick response.  I see the price.  I'd like to hear from Will5545 whether this fixed his problem and whether or not the fridge is performing well since this board was repaired and replaced.  I've also been having lots of problems with the ice dispenser.  I changed the KitchenAid Refrigerator Dispenser Actuator W10205979 a number of times.  The last time it only lasted a week.  Do you think this may have been going bad because of the problem with the board.  Or is it unrelated?  This is about the 4th or 5th one that I've replaced.  And most of the time I've had the fridge it's been broken.  We've had to open the door and manually get the ice out.

You sure are right!  Are you the technician who repairs the board?  If we send it in to fixyourboard.com will we be able to remove the board and reinstall the rebuilt one on our own?  Will you walk us through it?
