Frigidaire Affinity Dryer
« on: November 01, 2013, 05:07:16 PM »
I could use some advice on a Frigidaire Affinity dryer with an error code E71.  I know that the code is Outlet Control Thermistor open Circuit and I have replaced the thermistor twice with the recommended part #134587700 and still have the error.  My first question, is this the correct part?  The Tech Data Sheet shows this part as a 5K ohm thermistor but the recommended part is a 50k ohm.  I've been told by one tech that it's a typo on the sheet and by another that you can use a 50k ohm in a 5k ohm application.

If it is the correct part why am I still getting the error.  I have checked the wiring for continuity and it is good.  Any help would be appreciated!! :thanks:

Did you check the first thermister to see if it was open?

There's only one thermistor in the circuit.

Did you check the original thermister, the one you replaced?

I did...unfortunately it was open so I couldn't compare it to the new ones I bought.

"Check resistance of outlet control thermistor, and check wiring
for short circuit across thermistor connections. Resistance
should be between 4.9K ohms and 6.2K ohms at room
temperature (68-77f or 20-25c). Replace outlet control
thermistor and/or wiring and retest."

thats from a frigidaire handbook I have.

but then there is this page: http://www.partsdr.com/Repair-Help/How-To-Test-Frigidaire-Thermistor-134587700-42.cfm that says "With the thermistor at room temperature, the thermistor should read approximately 50-53k ohms."

Thanks for the Service Tech Handbook Schleven.  Still the same issue.  I entered Diagnostic mode and but couldn't check anything because of the error.  I cleared the error and retried and the error came right back.

Both of the new thermistors read 66k ohm in my cold MN basement, which is in spec for a 50k thermistor.  Rechecked the wiring and nothing is open.  In the last week I also replaced the control and interface board thinking that may be the problem...no luck.

If I should have a 5K ohm thermistor what would that part be...I can't find such an animal?

Its possible the wiring to the thermister is bad.
