Dumb question
« on: August 27, 2013, 06:46:06 PM »
Working on a maytag french door fridge, new production .It needs a door gasket for the fresh food right door .My question is this .The door gasket if not held on the old way with screws and a metal channel or its not pressed into a triangular groove .Its pressed under a foamed in place door liner .Never changed one of these ...do I just pull the old one out and try to push the new gasket back under .Do I try to scrape out left over foam with a putty knife .Anyone out there changed one ?

is the gasket available as it's own part?

haven't run into the maytag version...but had a samsung that sounds like what you describe.. after several rounds back and forth with samsung was told that the gasket was part of the door and you had  to replace the whole thing...

new gasket should have a rigid edge that you push under panel.

Just an update on this job .Got the gasket and it indeed have a rigid edge that you force under the liner .Not as simple as it sounds ...it takes a lot of force to get it under especially at the corners .The issue is the fit and finish when the jobs done.Try as you might you can't avoid a small gap between the bottom of the gasket to the edge of the door skin .A fussy customer may raise a stink .
