Just re-read the post.  Sounds like the clutch is the problem.  As the clutch wears, it can't grip as well and can't get the load started spinning.  If you can help it to start and it catches up, then it sounds like a clutch problem.  Especially if you're hearing a "squeal" type sound, or a high pitched whine.

  If your refering to a motor pulley clutch, this washer doesn't have one.
