So, some of you may recall that I have resurrected an old Maytag Neptune 4000 with a rebuilt control board, new wax motor and some appliance paint.
So far, all is well. However, when the machine goes into the dewatering cycle, there is some thumping and banging as the tub spins up. Of course, if it is severe, the machine slows and goes into the load redistrubtion mode. Soon, the machine is at full spin RPM, spinning away normally without any drama.
Questions are as follows;
1- Are there some shock absorbers/dampers that might need replacement to keep things under better control?
2- Assuming that the tub bearings will need replacement at some point, is bearing replacement a difficult job?
3- Are there some references that detail the bearing replacement?
Thank you in advance for helping me keep my hot rod Neptune working. It is the best residential washer I have ever used (maybe I need to get out more?).
