MSD2734GEQ Adaptive Defrost
« on: September 28, 2013, 03:08:23 PM »
having problems with diag. this. i think the unit is stuck in defrost. when i jump orange to white all the fans and comp. come on. i changed the adaptive defrost board twice thinking the new one was defective. on the old AD board if i flick the relay the comp and fans come on. also on the print the defrost t-stat check 240ohms. which it is. now... i dont know if the 240ohms is open or closed.

thanks

Jason

I know that the defrost heater will read about23.2 ohms.I see that on the diagram and some manuals i don't know where they are getting that higher ohm number.

Because there is no ground to the fans or compressor.  When I jump orange wire to the white wire on the AD it powers on.

And the ohm reading on diagram is 240 k thousands.i know heater is about 24 ohms because i just change one the other day not because it was bad but all bent up and the adaptive defrost was bad.

Maybe a loose connection on one of the connections in there that you have to disconnect when your installing board.I guess these are F.S.P parts too?

So the unit is dead and not working unless you jump out wires is that correct?Meaning compressor is not running.

Found this in a manual about 240 k ohms. That interesting.Sounds like that resister is inside the defrost thermostat .Why i don't know but i know i have used a WR50X50 IN THE PAST and change the board with no call backs. But this is not your problem. Its interesting maybe someone else would know about that 240 k ohm resister.I know when i cut it out off the heater it would read zero ohms on a low ohm meter scale when it was closed.Weird.

The Resistors on the ADC will get warm when the Relay is ON (Defrost mode).
The Relay should be ON for a maximum of about 30 minutes,
whether or not the Defrost Heater is energized (Defrost T-stat temperature)
The 240k inside the Defrost T-stat is a "marker" used to easily measure the entire Defrost Circuit,
wheather or not the Defrost T-stat is "open" or "closed".
