Maytag Neptune washer MAH4000 leaking and cleaning
« on: September 22, 2013, 05:56:20 PM »
greetings,

the washer puts out a little puddle on every use.  investigating, i took out the two pumps and hoses (clamps seemed tight, no breaks in the hoses/rubber parts).  i was able to clean some caked lint out of the downspout from the outside drum.  i noticed the downspout seems loose - is that normal?  could it be leaking from there?  the washer seems to hold water after the final drain cycle, was wondering if there could be clogging inside the drums?  the service manual on this site (description says for the MAH3000/4000, but manual only lists the 3000) doesn't seem to have enough detail about this assembly.  any advice on proceeding from here, perhaps remove the spin basket or is this not necessary?

thanks in advance!

Run it without the front panel. You should be able to see where it's leaking. Check the door boot.

When you turn the tub by hand you will hear water. It is sealed inside the balance ring and is a normal sound for this washer.

i ran several loads today with no leaking.

putting the pumps back in, i did tighten up the various hose clamps more than they were (factory).  could be that one of the connections was leaking.

any last tip on getting all the water out for long term storage?

Thanks for the advice!

What I do to totally drain any washer is take a wet vac,  put it up to the end of the drain hose,  put your hand over to couple it and suck out all of the water.   This should serve to drain out all of the water.

Thanks!  I'll give that a try with my vac and this washer.

You want to sell it? Where are you located and how much?
