Kenmore washer 400
« on: September 02, 2013, 06:58:03 AM »
Had this about 2 years. Just the other day it quit spinning.  It will spin if no clothes are in there...but will not spin with clothes.  Any ideas?

CO3523221

This is a model from the U.S. or some other country?
I ask because that does not look like a Sears/Kenmore model number to me and when I enter that number in the Sears Parts Direct site it not found.

Sears model number start with three digits, then a dot followed by eight more digits.
For example: 123.12345678

I am looking on the lid and by serial # it does say C03523221.  There is a number to left of it that is 111-07.  Does that help any?

That's more like it. ;)

What you have there is a direct drive washer manufactured by Whirlpool for Sears, IMHO a great washer!
Sounds like the clutch is slipping, part # 285785.

There is a video at this link that you may find helpful, Clutch Video.

Let us know what you find or if you have any more questions, thanks for posting!

Thats a great video.Stop it at 2:19 and look at that big round nut. That holds the tub onto the drive block. There are two ears that stick up on the drive tube. There are two notches on the drive block that lock it on to the drive tube. The block is aluminum and sometimes the notches strip out and then the tub won't spin.If that looks OK then continue on with the clutch.
