I'm having a continuous problem with the ice mold (new style) on my Frigidaire bullet style ice maker bought in Feb 2011. The problem is a sizzling or electrical arcing sound coming from the thermistor area on the mold it also emits a smell of burning rubber. This happens when the ice maker goes into the harvest cycle. I had the original (new Style) ice mold heating element burn through and I replaced it with a Frigidaire/Electrolux 242043902
which is supposed to be the latest edition. Diagnostics show everything is working correctly. I've dried all terminal connectors and used dielectric grease on all connectors. I've replaced the IM circuit board with the latest software Version 8.5. It appears that moisture gets into the little connector board for the thermistor connection (poor insulation, I guess). Other than blowing the thing up does anyone have a solution for this problem.
I have seen some service bulletins and other info that Electrolux is well aware of this problem and they totally changed the design of their ice maker units for this model in mid 2011. I've gotten a concession number from Elecectrolux/ Frigidaire for an upgrade repair kit but I suspect I will still have the same problem after the kit is installed.
