Kenmore Mod110.86870100
« on: August 26, 2013, 11:07:45 PM »
My dryer will start and operate normally for one complete cycle.  But after it stops (Or I stop it mid-cycle), it will not start again.  It acts like its trying to start but doesn't commit to running.  It takes until the thing has sat for hours upon hours before it considers running again.  As you can tell by the model number, it's as old as the hills. Hence, trying to repair it myself.  When it works, it does a very good job.
I have done everything i could to ensure that it is free of lint in the exhaust side of things.  I couldn't get the housing completely out of the back, but it's not obstructed.
What else can I do besides call a professional repairman?

It sounds like a bad motor to me. Does it make a loud humming noise when you push the start button?

Sounds bad to me, try to spin the drum by hand & see if it will go.

You will have too hold the door switch closed ... push start button and spin the drum. if it take off and runs it is a motor clutch ...

Either way, I'm replacing a motor.  When I tried to test the way you suggested. The dryer worked like it was supposed to. So I'm taking this chance to dry my clothes. I'll test the clutch idea when the cycle finishs. Thanks for the help.
