I have a whirlpool LSW9750PW3 that will not go into the spin cycle unless once the spin cycle has started I push on the timer button just enough to cut the power (less than a second)and release it. The basket will then spin normally and will complete the spin but once stopped and it goes into the next spin cycle I will have to go through the same routine again. Any help diagnosing the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Timer has to pause the washer after it drains for a couple seconds then it will spin. From what you are saying bad timer.
