Spare parts
« on: August 21, 2013, 06:52:08 AM »
I do on average about 3 "duck bill " or some call it drain grommet jobs on whirlpool/maytag bottom mount fridges each week .This is where the grommet won't let water pass into the pan and results in water freezing on the bottom of the freezer and water on the floor .I bet you 40% of the time I find a ufo stuck in the grommet .It appears as if its the plug they use on the cap line before the manufacturing process .I took a pic .Ever find ufo's inside the appliances you work on ....I found a small box of bandages inside the cabinet of an inglis dryer once

NOPE. I have found the long and short ones plugged. Usually they turn up sticky enough to stick to anything they touch. I take them out and clean with a contact cleaner for pcb's and scrub brush. I also cut a small chunk out to allow drainage even if it were to stick again.... O0

I've pulled lint balls out of these duck bills and cut chunks out of them and it seems to solve the problem. This might be a dumb ass question but why can't you just remove the duckbill? Are the newer refrigerators designed so that they need these rubbers?

I asked the same question to the tech line ...they told me that the evap fan would pull moisture into the freezer section and cause frosting because there is no p trap ,its just a straight tube .I'd like to try it once though and see what happens .

I don't know about the tech line bullshit.   I've cut chunks out like Domain,  and I haven't had call backs on them.

I always thought them and the P traps were to keep crickets and cockroaches out of the freezer.

Install a new duck bill and cut a V shape on bottom.
