It is all completely unnecessary. It adds costs, but no real benefits, but maybe I'm a luddite.
I really don't want my appliances, or lights, or furnace/AC, water, etc accessible through the internet.
You can probably disable or make work-arounds on this stuff at the moment.
But what happens when your "approved" appliances have to log on to the power grid in order to get permission to run. Or to be run according to the whims of the energy-rationers?
Isn't that where this is all headed?
Instead of rolling brown -outs, or public service announcements that encourage use in 'off-hours,' they'll just stop individual appliances, or ration according to their view of your needs.
