Viking range - one burner not igniting
« on: August 05, 2013, 10:40:58 AM »
I replaced the spark control module on my range because some burners weren't igniting.  Everything worked.  Not long after, I heard a sound when trying to turn on the front right burner and it stopped working. I can light it with a match and all the other burners ignite.

I tested the wire and ignitor and they are fine (I swapped with a working one).  So I guess I have to replace the spark module again?   To be honest, I didn't have the ground wire connected at first and maybe that caused the problem?   It is odd though that only 1 of them went out.

If you don't hear any clicking, I would say it's the spark switch.  If you hear clicking, probably the module since you've ruled out the ignitor and wiring.

I swapped with a working spark switch and it still didn't work.  I guess it is the spark module.  Is it common for them to work for all the other burners but not one?  The grill and back burner ignite fine.

I had a similar problem with a viking.  Its a reignition system.  I had one where I put a new module in and a month later the customer called with one of the burners not clicking.  I bought it from milestone in dallas and they replaced it for no charge.  It has worked ever since.  I have done other jobs for the customer, so I know it is still working.

I used the Harper-Wyman 6540 spark module which I think is also used on a few other cheaper ranges.  I don't know if there is an alternative. The Harper-Wyman was what was in my stove originally though.
