this is a week from hell, anyway removed tub from a direct drive whirlpool duet steam, only to find that it only has 3 clips on the top and no other clips around the perimeter of tub ,i removed the 3 clips and it did nothing when i tried to split tub, like its welded togather!not to mention this tub is rather brittle and you have to go easy so u dont crack anything,i failed to study manual which i dont have before i jumped in,that was a mistake,i assumed it was very much like regular whirlpool duet,,,its not,
anybody have experience with this before i put this monster back togather and run for the hills!

machine worked great except loud when in spin,,also sounds like something is in between inner and outer tub when i spin by hand

I haven't seen that yet.  Whirlpool really doesn't want their frontloaders fixed anymore, do they? If this is what it's come to, I'm not recommending Whirlpool frontloaders anymore.  LG is what I'm recommending. I haven't seen any bad bearings in an LG, but if I do, I can get bearings and seals from them. I'd rather recommend an American company, but Whirlpool's frontloaders are made in Mexico anyway.

Can you post the model number and serial number, I want to check the warranty.  Call Whirlpool, if it's less than five years old, they may comp the tub assembly.

yep  it looks like they want to sell you the whole tub, make more money than a bearing kit..or the hope you wont fix it at all,,,this machine is less than 2 years old,and was about  1200

To my knowledge they are only issuing concessions on the belt drive front loaders, not the direct drives.

Its my understanding that the tubs don't come apart.  The tub is only available as a complete assembly. I checked with a couple techs and the confirmed it.

You could cut it apart and weld it back together.  The tubs I've seen have been polypropylene (PP) plastic.  I cut my welding rods from old dishwasher tubs. I recently had one that had a 2 x 1 inch hole punched through it from a 3 inch sheet metal screw.  I found the piece that broke off, welded it back on, ran a few loads and sold it on craigslist. A whole tub would be a lot of work, though.  I'd probably have 4 hours welding and another 4 hours patching all the leaks I find.

i thought of that idea, and i will just cut it open to see if i find anything in between inner and outer tub,i have one of those dremel precision saws that make very clean cuts...because i hear something in there but cant see anything looking thru bottom or side holes, welding it togather is beyond my skills,im sure i could but id have no faith in it!,hey maybe a thick bead of silicone will hold it back togather!!l.o.l
