8529896 whirlpool motor centrigugal switch instructions
« on: August 20, 2013, 05:46:22 PM »
I was wondering if anybody has the Installation Instructions for the 8529896 motor switch? Customer bought the part and lost the paperwork. The wiring is different, but everywhere I look they says it's the correct replacement part. Model number of the washer is 11024992300. Everywhere I look the part number I find for the switch is 8529896. However, the wiring doesn't match up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

What do you mean, the wiring won't match up? Transfer motor wiring from current switch to same terminals on new switch. Plug in wiring harness and that's it. Gray wire connects direct to thermal overload switch.

For example, on the OEM switch, pin 9 is supposed to be where the white-orange wire goes, however the 8529896 switch doesn't even have a pin 9 on it. Also, I read somewhere else on this forum that according to the instructions, it says to swap the white-violet and yellow wires on the switch. That's why I asked for the instructions. Thanks.

This is the old style motor that does not have the 2-wire pigtail connection. Yes, you need to swap the wht/vio and yel wires from motor and you will need to cut the wht/orn wire and install quick disconnect connectors on them separately. I do see the old style switch available on ebay if you want to go that route.

Actually, you don't have to "swap" any wires. Place the motor wires onto the new switch exactly as they are from the old switch except for the wht/orn wire. Now, the wht/vio wire from the motor will be on the terminal labled Y on the switch and the yel wire from motor will be on the terminal labeled W. See what I mean?

Is this the style switch you have?

Is this how it is wired?

If so, just transfer the motor wires to the new switch exactly as they are from the old switch except for wht/orn which will have to be connected externally via quick disconnect terminals.

Can you provide a photo of your motor wire harness connector and a clear photo of your wiring diagram?

I see what happened now. The customer said they bought the 8529896, but someone sent a 62850. I suppose they assumed it was the same because the 8529896 is the replacement. Well, I guess there is no way to make this switch work then. Thanks for your help. that's what I get for listening to the customer.

Just realize that the "new" 8529896 version has the color code on the cover instead of just numbers as on the old switch. On your motor, if it's the 8541504, the wht/vio and yel are reversed. Do not swap them when connecting to the new switch.
