tapping noise during spin
Model Number:  110 20912991
Brand: Sears Kenmore

 Hello

I have read other post and have ideas of what is wrong, but I am trying to be sure I am on the right track. During the spin cycle the Kenmore will get a fast tap tap tap tap tap. (not so bad that it is bang, bang and walking the washer on the floor) If I redistribute the clothing it may or may not come back, but more often than not, the tap tap tap tap returns. I suspect the 3 suspension springs and do I need the counter balance spring also?

I saw another post about pads underneath, that require the drum, basket etc.. being removed. HOW do I know if I need the 3 pads? What else do I need to know to determine if I do? And I do not have that spanner wrench to undo the tub.... could channel lock pliers be used?

I have not taken anything apart, nor order any parts until I know what I need to do. The Mrs wants the washer working.

 Thank you

I've never had to replace any of the springs and when the pads wear out the tub shakes pretty bad. I would look first at the inside right rear corner and see if the pressure tube  or the wiring harness is hitting the back panel during spin.

Hi Bailey

I guess I should have said the basket does not spin in a good circle, somewhat of an oval.  But I will have a look see at what you suggested.

Is Bailey the dog on the avatar?  My brother has the same dog with the same name.

Thanks

No that's Cooper. Usually when I work on an appliance with an odd sound it helps to isolate the noise to a particular area on the machine. With this machine you can take the cabinet off and run it. The last one I worked on that needed pads was obvious because the worn out pads were laying on the floor.

You can look to see if pads are worn.    Take cabinet off.    Lift the skate plate slightly,  and you can see the condition of the pads.   Did a set about 6 months ago (not a problem you see often).    If any of springs off,   tub would be off balance.     You said basket spins in an oval,  did you mean inner tub or the whole tub assembly?   Could be a bad water balance ring or a ring that popped up a little.

I agree with Baily.   Try to isolate noise.   then it's easier to diagnose.

I think I may have found the source of the noise.  It was the corrugated drain hose tapping the wall.  I had sponge material on the fill and drain hoses, but they must have shifted a bit and caused the hose to tap as it spun the water out.  As we speak, a second load of wash is starting...so I am keeping my fingers crossed that was it.

The water balance ring?  Is that the part on the top of the basket and plastic tub?

Will let you know and many thanks.  :thanks:

Second load okay, so it must have been the hose tapping the wall.   :thanks:

Excellent. Glad it turned out to be a simple and inexpensive fix.
