Freezer leaking into refrigerator(Drain is NOT frozen)
« on: April 18, 2014, 04:50:32 AM »
Kenmore (m#-25373012303) freezer is leaking down into the fresh food compartment.  Checked the drain and its not clogged or frozen. There is no ice build up on or around the ice maker. And both areas apppear to be cooling normally.  Thought it might be condensation from a leaking door seal but they are both in good shape also.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

The drain funnel is not long enough.  The official fix is to replace the drain funnel.  There are a couple of unofficial fixes.  Add some peramgum between the drain and the vent or remove enough insulation from around the funnel that it extends a quarter of an inch past the insulation.

Pull down the center console in the refrigerator section (control box). Should be 2 screws in the back and 2 in the front. Don't unscrew the defrost timer which is located more in the center of the console. The defrost water drains through the back of the control box. Most likely plugged up with gook.

If the drain channel doesn't line up with the "cup area" I use a strip of foil tape and slope it back into the drain area. Never been back on one.

Cut foil tape to fit across the area. Install the foil tape in the rear between the air channel at the edge ,and the drain area (slope excess tape into area) That has always worked for me.
