Ge dual evaporator Sealed System question
« on: June 15, 2013, 07:56:40 AM »
I have what I hope is a stupid question and I've just been given bad advice by an old school tech. Here's the deal, I have my first Ge Climate Keeper dual evaporator fridge that isn't cooling on the fresh food side. I have changed the board since the fan runs, it does maintain "some cool" about 47 degrees. The display shows 47 so it knows it's too warm. The coils have no frost, no condensation, and no Freon flowing through them. That being said I'm going back Tuesday and I'm gonna replace the expaorator thermistor. I'm hoping this will resolve the issue, however if it doesn't I'm thinking the gas switching valve may be bad.

Where I used to work I was told (keep in mind they were very new then) that you can't charge a GE dual evap sealed system because the GE factory service has to have a special computer to operate that gas valve while charging the system. ..... PLEASE TELL ME HE IS WRONG!!!! :) Anyway can anyone send me a manual to put it into diagnostics while charging to operate the valve .... or maybe a old training manual to try to figure out how to do this. I don't need a step by step on the sealed system, but this is for a home warranty so getting rid of the call isn't really a possibility at this point, and if the evap thermistor doesn't work I have to figure out how to change that gas valve. Please don't reply unless you have done one or know for sure what your talking about. I don't need guesses. But if I literally cannot do it without the computer to interface the board I'm fine with that answer. I just don't wanna tell the home warranty that and get a call from my rep asking why I'm retarded :) Thanks in advance.

Don't have it here with me, but it's a 6yr old ge dual evap 26cu ft regular side by side. If you have done sealed Austen work on one you have done it on thus type, nothing special. Just wondering if i was lied to or I'd you need a computer to operate the gas valve while vacuuming and charging.

There is nothing in the Service manual about activating the valve for charging refrigerant.
The valve itself may be at fault and not rotating for fresh food cooling.
To determine if the valve is working, unplug the fridge for 10 seconds. Place your finger on the valve and re-apply power.
If you feel the valve moving it is supposed to be good.

Tried to access your email to send you the manual.
The site says I can not have access.

I tried that, seemed to be ok, i was 99% sure i heard some freon into the coils before o left. Freezer works fine, fresh food moldy and dry. No condensation, no frost nothing either tine I've been there. Replaced the board because everytime in the past if the valve is good you do the board. Cust days never cooled back down. Guess I'll Terry the thermistor and hope that does it. I just don't want to mess up a working freezer and find out i can't recharge. How would you pull a vacuum and add gas if either coil was off. It's almost have to be in both mode to do a evacuate and recharge I'm thinking. But there's no diagnostics that i knew of.
