no water going into icemaker
« on: June 10, 2013, 09:12:02 PM »
hi i have a problem with a fridge not making ice. model #lfc25770tt
one night, the water going into the ice maker didnt stop flowing until the 5 gallon tank (reverse osmosis)  was emptied.
i began testing the refrigirator's water selonoid and it has a constant 120 V. the selonoid is not energized though. i replaced the selonoid and still didint work. the icemaker got replaced and even the control board was replaced. still, no ice. i reset the new  ice maker by holding down the green button used to select water level  and the icemaker did a full cycle but no water went inside the icemaker. i have never seen a constant 120 V at the water seloniod before.
if you could please help!!!
thanks

Icemakers should not be connected to RO systems, there's not enough water pressure for the valve to work properly.  Since you've replaced everything, the only thing left is a frozen water supply, probably at the fill tube.

Thank you for responding!!!! Water pressure is good, the tube is not frozen. Do you think that the constant 120 v at the water valve is normal? The 120 comes from the main board. I don't think there should be any voltage at the water valve unless the water dispenser switch is pressed or the ice maker is trying to get water. Maybe I received a defective board!!!
Thanks

Even though the water valve has 120v, the selonoid is not energize.

If it has 120v, it has to be energized.
I'm attempting to download a service manual and have seven choices. Does your model number have a / and two digits at the end?

Settle down ;), the water valve has a constant 120vac feed directly from the main pcb. The MAIN pcb has no control over this IM other than the CONSTANT 120v feed. The wiring diagram on the rear of the reefer should verify this. Blue wire IIRC. Anyhow, the valve lacks a broken neutral that the IM pcb controls. Sounds like your IM needs replacement...

I could see it having constant feed of 120 volts because the im itself chooses when to harvest and when to send power to the water valve solenoid.. The fancy electronic brain monitors changes in resistance in the ice mold to determine whether to add more water and to determine when to start a harvest. If the water valve being energized all the time that must be bad im (ice maker).
I have a blog page on how these fancy ice makers work HERE.  Note: This article is about a GE eletronic but basically all of em work similarly.
