LG French door ice maker fan error
« on: May 27, 2013, 03:49:58 PM »
I don't want to just start replacing parts willy nilly, so I'm here with questions. I've Had the IF error code for months. I'd unplug it, plug it back in and the error would go away for a week. Now it doesn't go away for a day. I pulled the freezer back panel. No ice buildup. I blew my hair dryer through the passages and they are clear to and from the ice maker. I tested the fan with 12 volts and it hums along nicely. That narrows it down to the PC board and whatever sensor tells it if the fan is working or not. Since everything else functions normally, I'm leaning toward the sensor but have no clue where it is or how to test it.  Any help???  And while you're at it, why does the icemaker fan have three wires? Is one of them for the sensor?

OK; the motor is a nine pole motor with a circuit board built in. So I suspect the circuit board sends a signal to the processor telling it that the motor is spinning. That still leaves the question of whether it's the fan motor circuit board or the PC board..... Any test I can do before blowing the money for BOTH parts and then finding out it's something entirely different !?

Whats your model number? There are three wires. purple/black/red. Purple is your tach wire. should read a few volts when spinning. trace back to main pcb and verify its there.... :D

On the board at the top, there are "f-fan", "icing fan", and "c-fan". My first thought was that "icing fan" would be coirrect, but it has a red wire black wire, and brown wire.
Model number is LFX25960TT
Serial number is 612KRTA00313

a few volts AC, right? And if I have that signal. the problem is my main board? Are there any aftermarket boards that are an improvement over the factory boards, such as are available for Dometic RV refrigerators?

At the top/right corner of the Main Board---there's a low-voltage plug connector (multiple wires).

Looking closely at the lettering above this plug (on the Main Board)---you'll notice the following:

V (Voltage)

G (Ground)

F (Feedback Signal)

Place the test meter leads into the plug---at the letters V and G

The meter should indicate 12 to 16 volts AC (if not---replace the Main Board)

Place the meter leads into G and F

The reading should be 1 to 2 volts AC (if not---replace the Ice Room Fan Motor)

Additional Info...

This refrigerator was manufactured December 2006

A Service Bulletin was published---to remedy "ER/IF" errors caused by ice accumulation on the IR Fan Housing.

This affected models within the Serial Number range of 604KR through 703KR (Apr 2006-Mar 2007)

The re-designed IR Fan Motor Assy (5209JA1004A) has a *drain outlet* at the 6 o'clock position

The Plug on the Fan Motor is now *sealed* to keep out moisture

During the replacement of the IR Fan Motor Assy---servicers must inspect all of the foam seals and aluminum tape on the Duct Assy which is removed to access the IR Fan---to verify correct sealing (keep moisture out).

Thanks for taking the time to map this out for me. My low voltage multi-plug has different markings:
F-fan (w,bk, v), icing fan (r, dk bl, bn), c-fan (lt bl, o, gn), door switch (gy, gy). I'm certain I don' t have the updated fan, so I guess I should order it too .

I googled 5209JA1004A and got nothing. Do you have a source for the fan assembly? I DI however find a 5209JA1044A. Could that be an update? It LOOKS the same.

After unplugging the multi-pin fan connector from the motherboard and reconnecting it, I rebooted the fridge by unplugging it for five minutes. Everything was hunky dory on the display for over an hour and quite few door openings before I got the error code again. That makes me suspect the fan assembly moreso than the board.

When my board arrives, I'll plug it in and hope the problem goes away. If not, I'll order the fan.  Thanks for ALL of our help!!!
