Maytag Dependable Drive Washer - Leaks Water

Complaint: Washer leaks water.

As I started the washer so it would fill with water as I removed the font panel.
Once I had the front panel removed it was easy to see were the water leak was.

The water was leaking out the bottom of the tub were the transmission goes through to the agitator.

Solution: Install the Mounting Stem and Boot Seal Kit

The hardest part of this job is often getting the old parts out. It helps to have the right tools and one tool you need for this job is the maytag Spanner Wrench

It also helps to remember that the parts have left handed threads on them.

Even with the right wrench and the knowledge of the left handed threads you still may need to cut the old part off to get it removed.

A dremel with a reinforced cutting wheel makes this a easy task.

With a little knowledge, the correct tools and little time you can have your maytag washer up and running like new again too.

As a further note, if you see any rust whatsoever under the boot seal when you have it apart like that last photo shows, replace the tub bearing as well. If you do not, the boot seal will fail again in short order plus the tub willl not spin well.

Parts used in this repair are the 22204012 boot stem kit and the 204013 bearing assy. Always add 5 drops of Zoom Oil to the bearing after it is installed and the lower boot is in place. (Keep the oil away from the seal surface.)
