What's wrong with a small screwdriver to remove the ring and a pair of needle nose pliers to put it back on?
nothing
I do the same, I use bent nose needle nose pliers to put it back on and it works great for the outer spring.
For the inner spring I use a locking set of needle nose pliers and pull strait down.
