LG F1403RD Washer Drier
« on: May 05, 2013, 01:05:14 PM »
Hey Guys: Had a query about an LG F1403RD Front loading washer drier. The customers complaint is: Apparently the Soft rinse liquid gets taken in with either soap or 1 of the Pre-soft rinse Rinses. Lg have replaced the drawer assembly, water inlet over the drawer,  plus valves & sensors. They've also levelled the machine & turned down the water pressure but seemingly the fault remains & obviously the customer is'nt happy about not being able to set up a programme & leave it run on it's own, to get it to do what it should she has to manually place the soft rinse liquid in at the appropriate time.
I know we have a couple of LG experts on the forum & was wondering if any of you might have some ideas ?.

I searched the U.S. LG database and could not find a service manual for that model. Maybe another member can come up with a one for us.

Will wait to hear what the LG Pros have to say about the rest of your topic...

I don't have access to that information but either the control program has corrupted or the control board has a problem with one of it's relay switch activating the water valves.  You may have to replace the control board to resolve the issue.

Hi Guys: AJ, thanks for looking for the manual mate much appreciated.

Wild: Thanks for that mate, was thinking along the lines of corrupted software or a duff control board. I very rarely see LG stuff  & i'm no expert on it by any means, it's nice to be able to get feedback from people that have more in depth knowledge of the machines.

Washer/dryer combos on this side of the pond run to different numbers and it seems I can't look up the UK version...  but as a guess    wildimaginations is right from my experience.  Our model numbers look completely different. ie WM3987HW

LG/UK: F1403RD

LG/USA: WM3455HW

First---advise the customer---not to add Liquid Softener/Bleach/Detergent anywhere near the MAX LINE.
Use only 1 to 2 Tablespoons (convert to metric).

NOTE: The MAX LINE is the DISPENSE LINE!---the point at which liquid in a dispenser will self-siphon/drain into the Dispenser Housing.
Understandably---many owners *think* that the MAX LINE is a ***measurement*** line.
It is not.

Second---test the function of the WATER VALVES.

Press and hold the OPTION (left side button) and RINSE buttons.

Then press the POWER button and release all three buttons.

Wait until the door lock symbol illuminates.

Press the START/PAUSE button 4 times (at one second intervals)

PreWash/Cold is activated

5th time: Main Wash/Cold

6th time: Hot Water

7th time: Bleach/Cold

Hi John,

How do you cross the LG/UK: F1403RD to the LG/USA: WM3455HW, can this be done on the lgtechassist.com site?

Forgot to mention, if anyone has the service manual for this or can tell me where to get 1 i'd be really grateful.

If it's any help I just added this one...

John: Thank you for the excellent information & AJ the manual is excellent, thank you.
Just had an email from this stupid woman & now she tells me the machine is still under Guarantee. This job would be brilliant without moronic customers.

Well I emailed the customer to ask her how much softener she adds to the machine. John you were spot on buddy O0, she has been adding liquid up to the Max line at each wash
Can only wonder why the LG guys did'nt work it out before replacing all those parts.

Thanks again guys :)

Hi AJ

I haven't been on the lgtechassist site for quite awhile---so I've forgotten how it's set up.

To find the correct US model---I basically took a guess on LGs servicer website by entering WM3431 first.

Then I entered the WM3455 (both are combo units)---and was able to find the UK model number in the Parts Look-up section.

I don't always find a non-US model using this method though.

<<<she has been adding liquid up to the Max line at each wash>>>

*********

Good job communicating that to her---over the phone or by email :)

Not an easy thing to do---generally.

When the Dispenser Drawer is closed/shut somewhat forcefully---the liquid in the dispenser (if filled to the "MAX" line) will rock back and forth---and begin to dispense at the wrong moment.

Again---Good job :)

Hi John: Thanks mate but it was your knowledge that allowed me to help her, had an email earlier & she's apparently done 3 loads today using just 2 Tablespoons of liquid and each wash has run perfectly :thanks: O0

Have another woman on the UK forum same machine & same problem, apparently LG have changed all of the parts listed for the 1st machine I posted about plus control board & NTC. Have advised her the same but don't know whether it will sink in, she seems to be the sort of woman where any problem has to be down to a machine fault & can't possibly be due to a mistake she's making ::). Typical female customer really ;D Oh nearly forgot, this 1 reckons LG replaced her first machine because of the same fault :-\
