they dont make em like that anymore
« on: May 03, 2013, 10:44:32 PM »
I had a call today on a maytag washer, the old style.  The pump was bad. The machine looked new on the inside. She had never had a problem till now.  I asked her how old it was and she pulled the file with a date of july, 1992.
They don't make em like that anymore.

I took apart and repaired the transmission on my sisters maytag washer purchased in the mid '70s.These were dream machines ...best washers around in my opinion .More metal in one of these then 5 washers today .Nice feature was they used water to wash the clothes and not the crazy over engineered trickery of current machines .

I work on a lot of 1980's Maytag we sold when we had a store. People won't get rid of them (I won't let them!) ;D

Just had to say, my Mother bought a Maytag A810 washer in March 1982. Had to replace the timer several years ago-sometime in the 90's. Only repair and still washes like new. At 31 years old it has done well. Won't find a new one now that will last that long.

That's why Whirlpool shut that factory down. Eliminate the competition.

I doubt I changed more then 2 in my 37 year career ,I have fished out a few bobby pins or finishing nails but its easy because you could shine a light through the pump and spot the location right away .
