cutoff kit 279816 jumper wire?

I replaced my dryer cutoff kit 279816 on my dryer but is it necessary to add the jumper wire that comes in the package to the thermostat? Right now i have two wire that go to the element and two that go to the thermostat, so why is everyone cutting one of the wires to jump to the element?

The jumper wire is only necessary if your original limit thermostat has a terminal leg that attaches directly to the element.  If your old thermostat looks like the new one, no added wire is needed.
