Maytag direct drive MVWC300VW1
« on: April 17, 2013, 08:11:22 PM »
Washer filled, nothing else,  hidden lid switch not the problem.   possibly the ATC switch.  Motor not humming.  What can I look for Maytag is just out of warranty, very clean with low mileage.

Check to see if it will drain and spin. If it does, I would suspect the water level pressure switch. If not, it sure sounds like the lid switch but could also be timer, motor, or wiring/connection problem. ATC would not cause this problem on this washer.

No drain or spin,  lid switch not a problem,  checked wiring did not see problem,   motor does not seem locked up but I only took drain pump off, turned motor shaft & turned freely up to a point,  would figure motor would hum if locked.

Place the timer directly in spin mode. If the timer does not advance on it's own, your not getting power to the timer unless it's defective. Need to take some measurements with your meter.

With unit in spin position with lid switch bipassed, grab motor quick disconnect and wiggle it. May be, as previously stated, a bad connection on motor. I see it all the time.

Done at initial call, all seemed good

No burned connector, wiggled connectors while in spin, nada nothing,  Can see timer motor spinning.  Pulled plug from motor, using G/Y wire for neutral Have 120v to most all other wires going to motor cintrifical switch.  Wiring diagram not to clear to me in tracing wires.

leaning to capaciter & will check when I get back.  Older customer (75) not in that big of a hurry, wants me to hold check for a week.   Gives me time to scratch head & soak up what ya'll be telling me.

Thanks bunch & keep possibilities coming

You may want to check overload on motor to see if its open.Bad capacitor, the motor would make a humming sound.Sounds like a bad motor may want to bring one with you.Very common motor for the direct drive machine. One to have for truck stock.

The low speed motor winding resistance value is incorrect in that manual. It should be 1.8 to 2.6 ohms, not 18 to 26.

Figure this one out.  Left machine week ago inoperative.  Posted up.  Went back armed with motor, capacitor, temperature switch.  Expecting bad motor plugged machine in opened water valves, set water level switch to medium.  Tub filled,  meter set to closed agitate switch read 123vac on fill side.  Put leads on full side, reading low voltage.  Filling shuts off, Voltage jumps to 123vac on full side & machine agitates.  Set timer to spin cycle, washer drains & begins spinning after tub drains partially.

Had dead washer week ago, fill only difference I see is that hot water side was closed do to customer replacing water heater.  Did not think that mattered last week when filling unit with cold setting.

Spent some time there washing several loads of clothes, Machine works great.   I have checked wiring & spade terminals for corrosion, A problem in this gulf coast air.  I could not discern any thing out of ordinary.   Unit is working like new all cycles, temp switch working all 4 settings, extra rinse working all settings.    The Gods of wash playing with me?    or the customer, a Jehovah Witness.
