I have a Magic Chef dorm size refrigerator that seems to run, but it does not cool at all.  Is there a fix or should I just scrap it and buy another.  Purchased in 2006.  Model MCBR360S and serial # 0604MCBR360S10036

If compressor is running, but not cooling, scrap that unit. If the compressor is not running, check the ptc starter. If tested bad, it's worth fixing.  :welcome:

If you hear a couple of clicks from the compressor every few minutes, it's probably a bad relay.  There are officially no parts available for this fridge but a generic relay will work.  Remove the relay and shake it, if it rattles, it's bad.  Post a picture of the relay and I'll give you a part number. If you hear the compressor running but not cooling, like domain said, scrap it.

Hi.  Definitely getting the "clicking".  Is the relay the PTC (small black and about 1"x1.5" and you can upcouple the wire feed and pull out to expose two prongs?)  That is what I did....photos attached.

I could not find that part on any business website that handled the Magic Chef brand.

That's it, does it rattle when you shake it?. You can replace it with a WR07X10051.

The switch does not rattle.  Could it be faulty anyway?  Probably worth a shot trying a replacement.

You can check it with a meter, a cold relay should be about 4 or 5 ohms between the terminals.  You can also check the compressor with a meter.  The common terminal is the lone terminal at either the top or bottom.  Check from the common to each terminal, run and start.  Then check between the run and start terminals.  You don't want to see open or shorted windings. The resistance between the run and start should be about the same as the sum of the resistance of the common to start and the common to run windings.

I got one of the same MCBR360S "mini-fridges" and already changed the relay, but it still won't run. Any other possibilities, or is it just junk now?

(details below)
I brought the fridge from home to my office and let it sit 24hrs before being plugged in (it wasn't perfectly upright during transport). Friday afternoon when I did plug it in all seemed well, it started running, no odd noises, just like came out of the box. When I got back to work Monday the fridge wasn't running at all. There were no power outages or apparent 'surges' that might cause problems (no PCs, printers, or ANY other electronics showed any signs). I tried a few different outlets with and without a surge protector, but there was no response in the least. By recommendation of the previous posts I replaced the relay (the original did not rattle though), but it hasn't changed anything. So am I stuck or is there another common solution?

I thought that might be the case, but was hoping there might have been another fuse/relays/cheap part that I could switch before I scrapped it.
