VMW washer md# wtw5640xw0
« on: March 28, 2013, 09:41:06 AM »
VMW washer md# wtw5640xw0. Wanted to share a repair remedy. Units motor was like it was bound up. I removed belt and motor would run, but very slowly. Both ways the overload protector would eventually open circuit. Long story short. Faulty control board. I hadn't seen this problem before with this unit. W10393444

Yes, very good to know, thanks.  O0

Wow, that is a crazy price. It's about $100.00 cheaper at RepairClinic.

Prices are really getting out of hand on some of these boards. I have seen brand new laptops that sell for what some of these appliance boards sell for and there is a heck of a lot more to a laptop.

AJ, you got that right.   Servall has the board 100 dollars cheaper too.  Still,  when you qoute well over 300 to do a repair,  people are gonna get a new machine.    The cam kit is a good example.   It has gone up from 17 dollars retail to 46 dollars retail.   It is a couple of pieces of cheap plastic.  Whirlpool is really getting ridiculous.   I did a repair today on a VMW cabrio,  needed a cam kit, nut  and that stupid little belt.   I ended up charging her 160 for whole repair.

I'm finding a lot of people aren't fixing appliances anymore....you show up, diagnose the machine, call the parts store, give them a total for the job including tax and they say "I'll get a new machine".

All these boards have gone up bigtime and it's not just Whirlpool.  Frigidaire range boards use to cost me About $80 dollars and now cost me $120 dollars with a retail price of $150....you add labor and tax and you're up close to $275-$300 for a 6 year old range.  This industry is going the way of the TV repairman of the past.

The rebuilders aren't fixing this board, yet.  I'm going with rebuilt boards whenever possible.  There's got to be some competition to get these prices down.

It's not gonna b long before we have these high dollar parts for the vmw such as conrol boards and motors. These motors are also very high. All these units that r not repaired have some good parts. This vmw I purchased from customer after they decided not to repair. $30.00. I had a used board. I'm not in the habit of selling used parts, but these perfectly good boards and motors are good and worth money, especially if there is a warranty. Look at the price on this motor. http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Drive-Motor/W10249628/1873212
I will definetly put a good used motor on my truck. It would be worth a minimum of $100.00 plus your s/c and labor. That's more profit than u would make off a brand new one. I know there r t least two different boards. Not sure on the motor. I'm thinking one. That's like buying affront loader with a broken spider hub. User interface, mcu and ccu are good and worth something. I throw nothing away. O0

Don't forget to remove and save the plastic pulley from these faulty motors. I doubt u could buy the pulley only. Definetly worth it's weight in beer tokens. O0
