Brand new Roku 3 streaming video device
« on: March 30, 2013, 10:55:18 AM »
This device is only available at Amazon, $99.99, Best buy in April
The new device is 5 x faster than the old Roku 2 and interface much improved
For those pissed about gouging from cable/sattelite this is a possible replacement
 Positives;
NO contract, no charge for "basics" like Fox news, retro movies, games,Weather, etc. plugs into your existing internet modem/server
Most movies are FREE of advertising.A lot of channels, 750 and still growing
 Requires no computer
 Most reviews are positive
A real lifesaver for low income people
With "normal" high speed internet service, no visible fast moving picture blurring
 Negatives:
No sports exept on whatever may be on NBC, CBS
No local channels, but you can still get them if you can get them with an antenna
 Requires HDML cable ready tv
Will slow down your computer if movies are streaming
Premium movie channels like Netflix are $6.99 per month, others lower like $2.99
News channels are pre-recorded, some live news each day
May require ethernet cable hookup if you have trouble with wireless
Presently I cannot use it as I have to have real time business news and interference with computer not acceptable

The business channel CNBC is not available in real time and I ocassionally make an on line trade
and need realtime info. Also, my stepdaughter may be using her computer when I want to watch a movie. Only solution there may be a faster internet modem, or a new phone line for her.
Also, any specific questions I can answer, but presently only my daughter is using it in her trailer, which must use an ethernet cable as wireless will not work in a trailer due to all the metal.

I have found a way to get live sports and local, live network TV channels, but there is a cost involved.
Do a Google search for "How to find NFL games through playOn channel in the Roku". Have no way of checking this though.
Also, I forgot to mention before that the very good feature of Roku is you get the original add for a movie
and even some of the freebe channels show a movie trailer. This is not available on my expensive satellite service.
Love the new spell checker here!
