So when it stops working and you take the back panel off, does the coil look like someone packed snow in it? Did you the check continuity of the thermostat to determine if it was bad? Is the freezer fan motor running?

I would think that you went with the most popular part in defrost failure, that was NOT bad. Check your heater and defrost circuit.... O0

Continuity through the heater. It seems to have an ADC for defrost. Someone should chime in with test procedures on that..... Did you do any diagnosing or just replace the 'Stat"

4 months ago I had a tech come in. After he did his testing I was told it was the thermostat which he replaced and it work fine up. 1 month later the frig stopped working again. This time I changed it myself. Then last week it stop cooling again, so I brought the thermos from sears. Thinking It would make a difference it has not.

With this unit in an iced up condition, unplug and test for continuity thru defrost thermastat. Also check heater.if there both good, I would replace adaptive defrost board. http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Defrost-Control-Board/67004704/1070869?modelNumber=PSD267LHES
