For those who do this as a business-owner, how do you get people to call you?  I hung my shingle and now am doing a few things to advertise, etc., but am needing your advice on getting my business to be a business.

 :thanks:

Google Adwords, done right, will make your phone ring as much as you want. Done wrong and it will cost you a bunch of money and your phone wont ring.
Magnets to leave with any customers you get.
Make a facebook page, like it on your page, invite your friends to it and tell them to share it. Post on your facebook page, offer a fb special, ask customers to like and share your fb page.
Tell everyone you know and meet what you do, phone calls email etc.
Leave cards everywhere you can put or post them.

Hi Alpha: Something I've found that works for me is leaving a few Business cards on the counter in your local shops, most shop owners will let you do it if your a regular customer.

Good luck.

Schleven - How do I "do" Google adwords right?  Need a little more info.   Any suggestions?

I've got a business website and a facebook page, etc.

Thanks

I am adwords certified.  It took me 3 months training in another job i had to get that.  You can find other sites and even the adwords site that are full of information.  There are books on it. Or you can find someone that is good and pay them to handle it for you. It is easyto set up, but tricky to get right.

A bit of back scratching helps.

Stop by all of your local tradesmen, and drop your info off with them.  Plumbers, Electricians, etc. are always asked to do stuff that is not their line of work.  If you recommend them, they'll recommend you.

Try property managers & real estate agents.  they always look for people.

Advertise in church bulletins.

Hit every bulletin board around.

Send flyers to everyone.  Everyone has appliances, so everyone has to get them fixed.

Ads on craigslist stressing that you work evenings.  Working folks want to get stuff fixed w/out taking a day off.

Develop a relationship with a local, independent hardware store.  They are always asked for referrals.

Google 'marketing your business."

Don't give up
