Help. LG Washer Dryer Combo

So I have LG washer dryer combo. I have had it about 3 years. I do ALOT of laundry so it gets used for 1-2 loads daily at a min. I have replaced the drain pump twice and one of the circuit boards. Now in the wash cycle it doesn't spin. It makes this whiny noise like it wants to spin but doesn't it doesn't tilt or move either. Ironically though when it is in dry cycle it will spin just fine. Weird. I do not know what part to replace. I have not gotten any error codes but it is not washing clothes good at all due to this problem. Thank you guys for the help

First three of serial number? Could you post a video of the issue at hand? I immediately think hall effect sensor but you may wanna check your main pcb connections since you did replace it once....

Woah should have read that twice lol. Sounds like the software in the main pcb may be sending dirty power since it works in dry not wash. Model and serial please.

Two loads per day would be approximately 832 loads per year.

But in a combo (which is a washer and a dryer)---that is equal to doing about 1664 loads per year.

For a washer-only model---that's the equivanent of 4 years worth of laundry every single year

Let's see what happens in TEST MODE...

Press and hold the SPIN SPEED and SOIL LEVEL buttons

Then press the POWER button and release all 3 buttons

Wait for the door to lock (single click sound)

Press the START/PAUSE button once

Does the tub tumble Clockwise?

Press the START/PAUSE button a 2nd time

Does the tub begin to spin?   (low speed spin)

Press a third time

High speed spin ?

Press 4th time / Cold Water Fill for PreWash

Press 5th time / Cold Water for Main Wash

Press 6th time / Hot Water

7th time / Cold Water for Steam Generator

8th / Bleach Dispenser fill

9th / Tub tumbles Counter Clockwise

10th / Heater turns on for 3 seconds

11th / Circulation Motor runs

12th / Drain Motor runs

Did all of the test functions work?

You may have a stripped rotor on the motor shaft.  You can check it by removing the rear panel and run the machine.  If you can see the rotor in back turning but the drum is not, you will need to replace the rotor (4413ER1003B) and the bolt (4040FR4051C). 

According to the serial number, the rotor should be covered under the motor part warranty so ask LG about it.  The bolt is not covered but you should replace the old bolt.  This is a 17mm bolt.

Both are highly unlikely.

During 2008---the HALL EFFECT SENSOR and the ROTOR were upgraded.

Hall Effect Sensors now have a larger *resistor*

Rotors were changed from having plastic spines---to a *steel spline* insert.

It makes this whiny noise like it wants to *TUMBLE* but doesn't it doesn't tilt or move either.

Ironically though when it is in dry cycle it will *TUMBLE* just fine.

Weird.

I do not know what part to replace.

I have not gotten any error codes but it is not washing clothes good at all due to this problem.

During the wash cycles, there's enough torque for the rotor splines to skip causing the whining sound.  During the tumble dry, the rotor turns slower and thus is able to turn the drum with little effort.


Usually the reason for this problem is because the bolt loosens up and allows some play in the splines causing the rotor to skip when enough play has worn out the splines.  The next time you see this, check the bolt first.  You will find that the bolt has backed off from the rotor.  I see this all the time for this problem.

That's my interpretation.
