I have theory. Most people overpay their taxes and get a refund about this time of year.  Something breaks, they're rich with refund cash so they buy new rather than repair. What do you think, good theory or not?

Thats a good theory. Could also be that people have to PAY taxes and don't have the money for repairs.

Quiet here also in upstate NY, Albany area...this time of year is usually slow but this year is super slow.  A lot of people won't fix appliances due to expensive parts.  You give a person a quote of $300 and they say they'll buy new, and my labor is low compared to Sears.

As for Sears, they keep calling the local independents, including me, to work for them....I know it isn't because of COD calls...it's all warranty work due to the crap they're selling these days.  I see the Sears guys at the parts store and they say 90% of calls are warranty.

Here in Ohio their warranty calls are the LAST ones they are doing. Cash calls first. Their home warranty and their maint agreement calls are WAY down the list too

Actually, 3rd party contracts are first, then collect calls, then protection agreement, then store in warranty. They say we have to service the contacts first because we have an agreement to be there in 3 days or less or we'll loose the contract.
