Fenix MC11 Multi-functional Angle Flashlight
« on: March 09, 2013, 04:58:02 PM »
The Fenix MC11 is a flashlight I have been wanting to try out for some time now. Early this week I decide to pull the trigger and order one.

This afternoon it showed up and even though I seen all the photos of it online and watched all the youtube video's it was still surprising just how small it was once I got it in my hands.

Here is a nice video (not my video) on the MC11 that shows you the functionality of the flashlight.

In the short time I have had this flashlight I can see how it would be handy for a lot of things beside just a work light. I may have to pick up another one for the tackle box too.

Here is the Fenix website page on the MC11.
http://www.fenixlight.com/viewproduct.asp?id=146

For years I have always kept a 2x AA Maglite in my toolbox and the Maglites have greatly improved over the years with LED technology, but I think I may have found a replacement for it with the Fenix MC11.

Being able to stand the Fenix MC11 on end and angle the head so the light points in the direct you want will be a nice feature that is just not a option with the Maglite.

Do you have a favorite "toolbox" flashlight?

Very bright little light too. Has low/med/high setting and the high output is to bright for close up work.

Hey AJ: Looks like a nice flashlight, but gotta be honest from where i'm sitting way too expensive.
Think i'll stick to my Maglite & LED headtorch.

I only paid $40 for it. The last few 2x AA Maglite LED I picked up cost me right around $30 so I did not think it was to bad of a price.

Of coarse like just about anything there are knock offs and cheaper options, but I don't like cheap tools.

Another one I had looking at getting, but decide it was just to big was the Streamlight Knucklehead.

Hi AJ: Totally agree with you on quality tools, cheap just aint worth the hassle. Had a look at the MC11 earlier, over here by the time I paid VAT & carriage your looking at paying the equivalent of about $78 US for 1. From 1 of the suppliers I can get 2AA Mags for the equivalent of $19.50 & a good re-chargeable LED Head torch for about the same. Our prices seem to be a lot higher than yours for a lot of stuff.

Here is where I ordered my Fenix MC11 from, $45.95 and free shipping. Even free international shipping.

Being a bit of a flashoholic I probably do spend a bit more on flashlights then the average guy, lol...  ::)

Here is one of my favorite forums.

What model 2x AA Maglites are you talking about? You can pick up the old incandescent ones around here locally for about $5.00
Maglite has gone through a number of LED upgrades on the 2x AA models. Them are the ones that cost me around $30.00

Maglite just upgraded their 2x AAA flashlight along with the 1x AAA Solitaire to LED's too.

Hi AJ: Thanks for the link to the Fenix site, will have a good look at it a bit later & if I decide to buy 1 will get it from them.

Most places over here still sell the 2AA incandescent, which suits me at the minute as I had 10 spare bulbs given to me by a customer a few weeks back. Not looked at the price for the LED Mags yet over here.
Just bought a new Tool bag, Microwave leak detector & Insulation tester. So will leave it a week or 2 before I tell my missus i'm buying more tools ;)

It's interesting to hear about the price differences.

by the time I paid VAT & carriage...

What is VAT and is carriage the same as postage/shipping?

Hi AJ : VAT is basically a purchase tax, which at the moment adds 20% to all purchases. But even before you add VAT a lot of our prices for quality tools are way higher than I see for yours.
For example the little socket & bit set you posted up the other day would cost me over double to buy over here, another example i found the other day: I like the look of Klein tools especially the Multi bit screwdrivers, so looked for a place over here to get 1, I found a supplier but they quoted me the equivalent of $56 US + VAT & carriage.

Yes mate: Carriage is Shipping.

Ok, your VAT sounds similar to our sale tax then.

Each state sales tax is different over here, but many stores don't charge sales tax for online purchase unless it's being shipped within the state the store is located.

So for me I don't pay tax on most online purchases. Year after year I find myself order more stuff online then buying it from local stores.

Unfortunately all purchases over here are subject to VAT, whether you buy online or in store. There's no getting away from it.
Do you have to pay any extra import duties if you buy from Hong Kong etc ?
