Kenmore 110.4751 HE2Plus Front Loading Washer - won't drain or spin

Please help! I've been having some problems with heavier loads not spinning the water out during a wash cycle. Thought it was just "one of those things". I would restart on the rinse/Drain & Spin and that would fix the problem. Now, however, I just had a similar heavy load just sitting in the washer soaking wet. When I try to start the rinse/drain cycle the washer lights up like it will start but then then shuts down & will not start the cycle. After emptying the washer and getting as much water out as possible I put a light load in and used the normal/casual cycle. The washer filled, started to agitate, then shut down without continuing its cycle, again leaving water and soaking clothes. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sounds like a problem with the motor or motor controller. If you remove the bottom panel you will see a tech sheet in a plastic bag attached to the right side of the inner panel. You need to follow the directions on how to diagnose a motor failure. You will need to remove power to the washer and will need a digital volt/ohm meter. Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks. Not really savvy with Ohm meters. Should I ask a better qualified friend before I muck things up?

Have you removed the lower front panel to clean the drain filter?

Yes, I  have the front panel off but cannot seem to get the pump/motor out of there. I watched a u tube video for a similar pump but cannot seem to get my pump loose from its grommets. (I did find a mess of loose change and a couple fingernail clippers so far - was  hoping  that might be it). I do not want to force it too much - is there a video you know about for other pump/motors by chance? THANKS IN ADVANCE - YOU ALL HAVE BEEN WONDERFUL!

I have the pump/motor out !!!!(sort of a slide to the right type of grommets - unlike the videos I saw). Found almost $4.00 in change, a couple buttons, golf Pencil and lint. I have found the part for $84.63 from Sears, seems reasonable - seen it for $150.00 on line, so will order. 

The motor is attached by what looks like a sliding seal mechanism - hard to turn - worried @ snapping some wires - so any help there would be appreciated. The last step...keep those suggestions coming!

Reattach the pump and motor.
Set the control for Cancel/Drain and start the machine.
A voltage meter on the pump wires would tell you if the pump is getting power.
Your hand on the motor would tell if it is turning.
A test cord hooked to the motor terminals would allow bench testing.

Make you a test cord with 2 terminals to test pump motor. Forget the ground for bench test. Terminals can be connected either way. This will tell you whether the pump will work. Since your unfamiliar with volt meter, this will help you elimate the pump as the problem.
